Good Fortune in Bad Luck?

“All of us have bad luck and good luck. The man who persists through the bad luck – who keeps right on going – is the man who is there when the good luck comes – and is ready to receive it.”
– Robert Collier, Author

I met my neighbor at the elevator the other day. He was pink from the cold, wearing a woolen hat and scarf wound around his neck. He was a little breathless as he told me about his bad luck that day.

He explained that on this particularly bitter cold day, while on a major highway, a rock hit the underside of his car, damaging the gas feed to the engine. He was stranded on the road — cars whizzing by. He called a taxi and asked for gasoline to refill the tank. He waited and waited in the sub-zero temperatures.

But it didn’t work. The gasoline just leaked out. Several hours later his car was towed. Finally home, there was a message that his business partner was very ill. He wondered what else could go wrong.

Then came his surprising conclusion
He said, “Every time things get really bad, there seems to be no HOPE. But when the bad luck runs its course, good luck seems to come from nowhere. In fact, more luck comes to me than I ever expect. I actually don’t worry so much anymore when things go bad. I know good luck will appear. There really is HOPE.” I took comfort in his wisdom, coming from someone who has led such a full life.

•  Have you had bad luck run its course and things turn around for you?
•  What part did HOPE play in your luck turning around?
•  Do you need HOPE because you are overwhelmed with “bad luck”?

I’d love your comments.
