Life loves to be taken by the lapel and told:  “I am with you kid.
Let’s go.”
~ Maya Angelou

Life is a journey. I’ve encountered a lot of turbulence along the way on mine. Many times I needed someone or something to grab me by my lapels and urge me on. I have wanted someone to say to me, “I’m with you,” but there’s often no one here to do it and I have to do it myself.

You might laugh, but this has led me to taking lots of quizzes. These seemingly simplistic tools are a great check-in to see where you are at that moment.

I recently came across an eleven question quiz in AARP’s magazine that points to whether you are living a life you love. One of the declarations that the quiz makes is very important in my life, “I’m excited and hopeful about the future.”

It probably seems obvious (after all, this is a blog about hope). Yet, I do ask myself this all the time, especially at the end of the day. I reflect, “Was it a good day?” “What could I have done differently?” “What could I have said to someone that would have conveyed a more hopeful perspective?”

The quiz may be simple but the answers to the questions are not. As we reflect more deeply and honestly we see that living a hopeful life requires focus and attention in every thought, belief and action.

Whether you take your input from AARP or Cosmo, life’s worth living to the fullest.  Just make sure you check your bearings occasionally.
