When the world says, “Give up,” hope whispers, “persevere.”

Funny thing about fathers; they really have a tendency to go above and beyond when it comes to their children. (No wonder we set aside a special day to honor them.)

Dick Hoyt has certainly taken fatherly devotion to a whole new level. Together, he and his son, Rick, have competed in over 900 endurance events, including 64 marathons and 8 Ironman triathlons. Rick, who developed cerebral palsy after complications at birth, once communicated to his dad that racing made him feel “free.” That was all Dick needed to hear. Thirty-six years later, the pair is the most talked-about distance runners in the country, and has raised millions of dollars for cerebral palsy research. So let’s raise a glass of Gatorade to Dick and Rick—two individuals who have made the most of what they’ve been given and inspire others because of it.
